28: And I will give that one the morning star.
29: Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
The human heart is bound to false emotions and the selfish patterns of possessiveness. The divine or spiritual heart (‘morning star’) is founded on compassion, mercy, service, faith and patience. Even in relation to those for whom we feel human love, we must transform this heart-energy into a more spiritual attitude and relationship. Without this, we may fall into the trap of becoming the saviour of our family, only to feel like a victim or as though we have been abandoned. Release everything to which your ego clings, so that higher love may be given space. It is generally in our romantic and family relationships that we carry our greatest struggles, heightened emotions and feelings we have not yet faced.
Let us ask ourselves the following key questions: ‘What am I devoted to? What fills my heart with adoration? Material possessions (greed), emotional dominance (desire)? Who or what sits upon the throne of my heart? Which elemental?’ John warns that spiritual development is hindered and blocked if service to and reverence for the Spirit are not directed towards the highest quality, namely divine love. We must commit ourselves to divine love and follow the guidance (laws) of our higher self. John says that the one who can rule over their lower nature ‘will be given authority to rule, as I have’ (through the higher light of Christ). He further says that the reward is the ‘morning star’. This is Venus, the star symbolising the outpouring of divine love and light.
